Summer Reading

The school year is winding down and students will soon be receiving lists of books for summer reading packets. Many kids dread the idea of reading over the summer-but they shouldn't. There are so many engaging and worthwhile Children and Young Adult books available that summer reading does NOT need to be a chore. Below is just a short list of books I recommend for summer reading, based on reading trends in my own classroom. I suggest getting a head start on summer reading now so the best books aren't missing from the book store and library shelves!

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Among the Hidden by Margaret Patterson Haddix

Percy Jackson & the Olympians by Rick Riordan

The 39 Clues (assorted authors)

Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson

The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan

Soldier Boys by Dean Hughes

Uglies by Scott Westerfield

Hoot by Carl Hiasson

Flushed by Carl Hiasson

Still can't find a book that's right for you or your child? I suggest using Scholastic's Book Wizard to find the book that is the perfect fit!

And don't forget: I can help keep your child interested in reading over the summer while helping him/her develop important reading and writing skills! Please email me with a job request and I will be more than happy to help!
